Milgard Fiberglass Windows for Orange County Homes

Fiberglass is the premium window frame material — stronger than vinyl, more dimensionally stable, paintable to any color, and the best performer in coastal and high-heat environments. It costs more than vinyl upfront, but for the right home and homeowner it’s the last window frame you’ll ever deal with.

We carry fiberglass windows from Milgard. They are available for in-person viewing at our Fullerton showroom. Call (714) 680-8999 for a free in-home estimate

Why Fiberglass Over Vinyl

Dimensional stability. Fiberglass expands and contracts at nearly the same rate as the glass it holds — roughly 8 times less than vinyl. That means less stress on seals over time and significantly fewer fogged units as the window ages. In Orange County's temperature swings, this matters over a 20–30 year lifespan.

Strength. Fiberglass frames are substantially stronger than vinyl, allowing slimmer profiles, larger single-pane spans, and greater structural integrity in wide openings.

Paintability. Unlike vinyl, fiberglass can be painted. Standard and custom colors are available from the factory; if you want to change the color later, you can.

Coastal performance. Fiberglass is completely impervious to salt air corrosion. For oceanfront and near-coastal homes in Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Dana Point, and San Clemente, it's our primary recommendation.

Heat resistance. In extreme heat environments — including our Lake Havasu City location where summer temperatures exceed 110°F — fiberglass maintains its shape and performance where vinyl can soften over time.

Fiberglass Window Products We Carry

Milgard C700 Fiberglass Windows

Milgard’s fiberglass line, produced using a pultrusion process — glass rovings and mats pulled through a resin bath and a series of dies under tremendous force. The result is a frame with exceptional tensile and torsional strength that undergoes extensive testing for quality and consistency before leaving the factory.

Frame colors: White, Tan, Bronze, Black Bean, Harmony, and additional designer colors. All colors are available from the factory; the frame can also be repainted in the field if you want to change colors later.

Best for: Coastal properties, high-humidity rooms (bathrooms, kitchens), homeowners investing in maximum long-term performance, and projects where custom color or paintability is required.

Window Operating Styles

All five brands we carry are available across a range of operating styles. Here’s a quick overview of what’s available and when each works best:

Single-hung

Lower sash moves up to open; upper sash is fixed. Most common in Orange County's older residential housing stock. Simple, reliable, cost-effective,

Double-hung

Both sashes move. Allows top-down ventilation and easier exterior cleaning. Popular in traditional homes.

Horizontal Sliding

Sashes slide side to side. Works well in openings where vertical operation isn't practical.

Casement

Hinged on one side, opens outward with a crank. Best seal of any operable style when closed. Excellent ventilation. Popular in kitchens and contemporary homes.

Awning

Hinged at top, opens outward from bottom. Allows ventilation even in light rain. Common in bathrooms, laundry rooms, and as accent windows.

Picture / fixed

Non-opening. Maximizes glass area and views. Often combined with operable windows flanking on either side.

Glass Options

All fiberglass windows we install come with dual-pane insulating glass as standard. Options include:

Low-E Coatings

Required for California Title 24 compliance in most replacement applications. We specify Low-E appropriate for the Pacific climate zone — solar heat rejection is the priority in Southern California.

Argon Gas Fill

Improves thermal performance between panes. Standard in most configurations.

Tempered Glass

Required by California building code in specified locations. All installations meet current code requirements.

Laminated Glass

Upgrade for superior noise reduction and security. Recommended for coastal properties with wind noise and homes near freeway corridors.

Low-iron Glass

Premium option available through Milgard Ultra that reduces the green tint visible at glass edges in large spans. Popular in high-design projects.

Obscure and Decorative Glass

Available for privacy and decorative applications.

Fiberglass vs. Vinyl — When to Choose Each

Choose fiberglass when:

  • Your home is within a mile of the coast (Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Seal Beach, Laguna Beach, Dana Point, San Clemente)
  • You want the ability to paint or change frame color
  • You’re doing a high-end remodel where you want the best available product
  • You have a large custom home with wide openings or non-standard configurations
  • Long-term performance and minimal seal failure over 25–30 years is the priority

Choose vinyl when:

  • Budget is a primary consideration
  • The home is inland and not in a high-salt-air environment
  • Standard colors (white, tan, bronze) work for your project
  • The home is a rental or investment property
